This okonomiyaki place seems to have just opened, I haven’t ever had okonomiyaki before so I thought that visiting Jeux Jeux would be well worth it. These guys specifically specialize in the Hiroshima style, which I hear is the best. So, is Jeux Jeux any good? Let’s find out.
This is what you are greeted with when you enter. The whole place is a strange mix of well thought out design, and empty space. I will give this place a bit of a pass as it did give off a sense that they were doing something they were really passionate about. I would love to come back in a year and see how much it improves.
This is something that I really like, kitchen facing seating. The fact that Jeux Jeux specializes in okonomiyaki means that watching it being made makes for fantastic tableside entertainment.
I decided to go with a starter too, deep fried tofu in a soy base. This sounds like a really simple and relatively flavorless dish, but in actual fact, it was fantastic. Super delicate tofu and broth which complemented each other incredibly well. Next time I am here I will get this again, this is what a starter should be, ten our of ten.
I sent a photo of this to my mum, who is also a food enthusiast, she asked if I was trying turtle for the first time. Despite the third party review, I think it looks delectable. Combine it’s appearance with the fact that you can see it being constructed makes for an impressive showing. As for the flavor … A slight letdown, it was good and filling, but that is about as far as I can go.
One extra thing I have to mention is the bathroom, what you are seeing now is the walk to the bathroom. If you need to go, there is a stark switch between the cozy restaurant, and resident evil style corridor exploration. I don’t want this to impact the score of the restaurant but it is definitely something to bear in mind.
Jeux Jeux – Conclusion
If you want a new dining experience, and of you have never had okonomiyaki, this is a fantastic place to go for it. The prices are fair and reflect the dining experience, that including , staff, food flavor and quality and the seating. If you are a fan of the resident evil horror series you will enjoy the liminal bathroom experience.
