Tonkotsu is a very very popular chain of ramen restaurants. They mainly revolve around the center of London, but a few more are popping up around the country. Given the volume of ramen shops, does this place deserve your money and time? Let’s find out.
This time we went to the Soho location, I have previously been to the one on Batterea, and I have to say despite the screaming children that was quite a good experience. This place’s dining area was clean, decorated well, and a great buzzing atmosphere.
For the starter, fried pork dumplings. These guys were fantastic, incredibly dense, and packed full of flavor. the fried asses of the dumplings elevated the texture and made the whole dish even better.
Let’s ignore the viral cucumber recipe, I have tried it, and it’s fine. These guys were a level above, properly picked, and beautifully seasoned. I could easily eat a bathtub full of these fellas. I want to know how they got so much pickle flavor but were still able to retain the crunch.
As I say, chicken karaage is a fantastic litmus test for a restaurant. Tonkotsu excelled in this test. Tender, succulent, flavourful and crispy. Seriously Karaage doesn’t get much better than this, I was shocked about how good this was.
There are only a handful of places that serve fantastic ramen, Tonkotsu Soho is certainly one of those places. The broth was beautifully thick and creamy, and all the additions were paired to an optimum equilibrium of umami flavor. The noodles were just what I requested, a delicate blend of tough yet flavourful.
Tonkostsu – Conclusion
Of the hundreds of ramen places in London, this place stands out. The menu is nicely varied, and at the same time, everything we ordered was fantastic. Given what we paid, especially given the location made the dining experience even better. If you need a bite to eat and you are in the area, this is the place to be.
