My wife and I walked past this place on holiday. She thought it looked nice so we went in. We then spent the entire afternoon playing scabble and drinking their own branded ale. The Horseshoes kitchen wasn’t open at the time so we vowed to go back for a full dinner. We were very happy we did.
The entrance and general atmosphere of the Three Horseshoes is fantastic. It is such a lovely building with a nice stripped back interior with plenty of personality. All of the staff a nice, welcoming and friendly, they were attentive and knew about the menu which is always a plus.
The Horseshoes bar itself isn’t really separated from the dining area, although when it does get busy there is a natural separation that forms between diners and drinkers which is really nice. The beers they have on tap are all pretty good, but the aforementioned own brand ale is the star of the show. It is one of my favorite’s and if I saw it in another pub, I would be getting it.
The Starters. I am not going to be overly specific here as I had a try of most things on the menu, and it was all great. The flavor and price was at a nice equilibrium. I didn’t feel like I got really good value for money, but I felt like I was charged what I should have been at the time, a balancing act which had been executed prefectly here. Get anything form the menu, you wont be disappointed.
The main; lamb. It was beautiful. I had a small taster of the other mains and they were good, but nothing on the lamb dish. Perfectly balanced flavors combined with perfectly cooked meat, it was a real treat. Whoever the chef is they really know what they are doing, simple ingredients combined together to make a fantastic dish.
Conclusion – Three Horseshoes
A real gem that deserves your time and money. If you are going there just to drink or to eat as well, you cant find much better places than this anywhere in the UK. Great food paired with nice drinks and a cozy atmosphere. You can’t really go wrong.
