There is a small group of food vans just outside of the main square in Canary Wharf with quite a few different types of food. I need to check the rest of them out but for now I thought I would start off with this newly opened bun place. Who doesn’t love a Steam Bun!
The entrance of the place. It seems much more alluring than the other ones and it is the only one that is not blaring music out of a $3 speaker. Annoyingly as soon as I walked away after taking that photo about 500 people got in the queue.
The buns looked and smelt amazing. They are freshly made in batches, so if there is a good rotation you would have a bun that has been made in the last 10 minuities. This is apparent when you bite into one and you are met with a face full of steam, hot enough to melt your face off.
This is where the compliments end. Halfway through this experience reality kicked in. Even though the bun was hot the filling was far from it. Very mild in both flavor and temperature. For the money, it was just about acceptable but I can promise you I will never be going back.
Conclusion – Steam Buns
What a shame. Steam buns could have been something really special but for some reason the filling was way below par. If it was better I would be picking up a bun or too whenever I would walk passed. Unfortunately it was not meant to be. Another day another disappointment.
