The 5 Stage Approach
1. Flavor
2. Quality
3. Interior
4. Service
5. Value
1. Flavor
A straightforward category, and the most important in out 5 stage approach. How flavorsome are the meals, and how have the flavors been been used to maximize the eating experience. For the client it is the most important category, how does it taste? For the chef it could potentially be the most challenging aspect of their job, how do I combine these ingredients to create an outstanding dish?
2. Quality
What is the quality of the food? This really can be the make or break moment for many dishes. Good quality, fresh produce cannot be beaten. When you sit down and pay a premium with not only your money but also time, you would expect to be served quality ingredients, worked together in harmony to create an appealing dish.
3. Interior
Even through it is not quite as important as the first two categories, when done well, the interiors of a restaurant can boost all other aspects of your dining experience. Eating the best meal of your life would probably be a little more enjoyable if you are eating on the top floor of a sky scraper with elegant furniture, rather than eating it in your mates heavily soiled bathtub. The interior of a restaurant plays a large role in how well you feel your experience is valued too. A nice interior can make you feel like you money has been well spent.
4. Service
Sometimes it doesn’t matter how good the food is, how nice the restaurant is, or how much it costs. If the front of house are rude, it is not worth visiting. When one decides to go out, one decides to use their time and money to frequent and pay to be in a restaurateurs establishment, the bare minimum should be to be treated with a level of respect. This is a non-negotiable essential metric for a restaurant.
5. Value
Eating out can be a pricy affair. This is why when restaurants are able to charges a fair rate for their food and still turn a profit, it illustrates an incredibly well run establishment. Restaurants are famously hard to run, this is why finding this sweet spot of charging too much or too little is near impossible. Therefore we would like to commend those places that are able to find that ‘golden zone’.
The Final Score
Once the scores have been given, they are added together and doubled to give a percentage. This percentage then feeds into the tier list that gives the final result.
